The three charity winners of the People’s Postcode Lottery’s 2015 Dream Fund have been announced. The three projects – Energy Gardens, Taming the Floods – Somerset Levels, and Edible Playgrounds – will share the prize of over £1.7 million.
The three projects are all based in the South of England.
Energy Gardens is a joint project between Groundwork London and Repowering London, and aims to turn 50 of London’s Overground Rail Operations stations into greener spaces. These will provide sustainable volunteering and training opportunities to grow edible produce and transform under-utilised public spaces. The project has received £750,000.
Taming the floods – Somerset Levels has received £750,000 too. The partnership between The Royal Bath & West of England Society, Somerset Wildlife Trust and the Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group was developed as a result of the severe flooding in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
The project aims to protect the Somerset Levels against future flooding and “rebuild both pride and ecological celebration within the landscape”.
Edible Playgrounds is a healthy living project run by Trees for Cities, School Food Matters and Chefs Adopt a School. It received £249,180 which it will use to give all primary school children in London the opportunity to grow, harvest, cook and eat healthy food in a positive and safe environment.
