Interview with Max Grell of GivTree

UK Fundraising met up with Max Grell, co-founder of GivTree, to find out more about the new online giving platform that tantalises with the offer that “Money grows on trees”.
GivTree offers a social giving platform that enables individuals to support a charity with a small donation and then nominate some friends or family members to join them in donating. When some of these respond, the site tracks this “donate and nominate” network and presents them visually as a ‘tree’ of donors.
Through a combination of personal contacts through email, social media and in person, plus some gamification incentives, GivTree aims to help people generate “a chain reaction of many small donations to ignite support for a charity you believe in”.
The platform was established earlier this year, before the current trend for nomination-based fundraising, as exemplified by the #ALSicebucketchallenge, took off.
Physics graduate Max Grell has four years fundraising experience behind him as a face-to-face fundraising campaign manager.
The company has taken on new staff recently and is currently in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign to help fund its expansion. It will launch formally in the first quarter of 2015.
