Legacy income drives growth at Action Cancer

Howard Lake | 7 June 2014 | News

Northern Ireland cancer charity Action Cancer has increased its fundraising income by over 38 percent in the last financial year.
Income between 2012 and 2013 grew from £3.8 million to £5.2 million. The charity says that it is not legacy driven or dependant but the figures show that £1.8 million of income in 2013 was from legacies, up from £500,000 in 2012.
The charity’s fundraising income grew by 12% in 2012, also the result of a big increase in legacy income
Donations also increased in 2013, from £700,000 to over £1 million but retail income and fundraising income (from events etc) fell from £990,000 to £925,000 and from £1.14 million to £1.06 million, respectively. Retail margins also tightened with expenses slightly increasing to £737,000.
Action Cancer says that the growth in donations was due to the “maintenance of existing relationships, the developing of new opportunities and the servicing of all supporters with the appropriate level of help.:
The growth in income allowed the charity to put £1.6 million in reserves. The organisation has net assets of £4.4 million.
