DFS customer sofa donations raise £2.2m for BHF
Customers of furniture retailer DFS have raised £2.2 million for the British Heart Foundation since May 2012 by donating their unwanted sofas.
When someone buys a new sofa from DFS, they are invited to donate their old one to the heart charity. BHF will collect the unwanted sofas for free, and then sell them in its Furniture & Electrical shops.
The partnership between BHF and DFS began with a pilot in 10 stores. That was then expanded to 34, and now all DFS stores in the UK are part of the scheme.
At the scheme’s public launch in July 2013, Ian Filby, Chief Executive of DFS, said:
“Not only will the partnership mean that thousands of sofas find a new home, it could see millions of pounds in vital funds raised”.
