Jersey donates £30k to Plan UK for refugee work

Howard Lake | 2 April 2014 | News

The State of Jersey has donated £30,000 to children’s charity Plan UK to support its work with refugees who have fled violence in the Central African Republic. The grant from the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission will help the charity provide water, sanitation and hygiene for those living in refugee camps.
Nearly 70,000 people have arrived in camps in East and Adamawa regions of Cameroon since fighting intensified last year.
Commission chairman Senator Paul Routier said:

“The Commission felt reassured that Plan UK, already having an established presence in Cameroon, was best placed to mobilise essential aid supplies immediately to those most in need, ultimately reducing further disease and possible loss of life.”
