One Cent Call to run national TV advertising campaign

Howard Lake | 12 September 2013 | News

One Cent Call, the platform that lets mobile phone users donate small amounts regularly to charity, is to launch a national TV advertising campaign in October.

This will follow a national direct marketing campaign that will encourage 100,000 people a week to download the free mobile phone app and start supporting their favourite cause.

One Cent Call launched in the UK in August. Subscribers donate one cent (penny in the UK, of course) per call or text message based on their estimated mobile phone use. On registering they choose to set a maximum of £0.50, £1.50 or £3.00 per month. A minimum of 85% of donations are passed to the selected charity.

The system works on all mobile phones, not just smartphones. Users with older models can still sign up via the One Cent Call website.

Over 100 UK charities have signed up to benefit from the service, with two or three signing up each day, according to One Cent Call’s Matt Hornibrook.

Originally established in Australia, the company expects to expand to the USA and Ireland, as well as other countries. The company takes the approach of benefiting charities “by asking the lowest possible contribution from the broadest possible market”.
