JK Rowling’s unmasking as crime author yields donation to military charity

The Soldier's Charity is to receive a donation from law firm Russells following the revelation that JK Rowling was the secret author of a crime fiction novel.

Rowling wrote 'The Cuckoo's Calling' as 'Robert Galbraith' but her authorship was known to only a few, including a partner at the law firm. After he shared the secret with a family friend, it was then revealed publicly via Twitter.

The firm agreed to make a donation to ABF The Soldier's Charity at Rowling's request.

Rowling has also announced that she will donate her worldwide publishing royalties to the charity for three years from 14 July 2013, the day that Robert Galbraith’s identity was made known.

She said: "This donation is being made to The Soldiers’ Charity partly as a thank you to the army people who helped me with research, but also because writing a hero who is a veteran has given me an even greater appreciation and understanding of exactly how much this charity does for ex-servicemen and their families, and how much that support is needed."
