Lloyds Banking Group donates money management skills to disadvantaged families

Howard Lake | 14 November 2012 | News

Lloyds Banking Group is offering free money management workshops to 1,500 families across the UK through its Money for Life Programme.

This is being run with Family Action, the national charity dedicated to providing practical, emotional and financial support to disadvantaged and socially isolated families.

One hundred and twenty Lloyds Banking Group employees are participating in Money for Life's accredited financial education training and then volunteering to deliver the free workshops, which will cover topics such as budgeting, banking, shopping around, borrowing and planning ahead.

The partnership follows evidence of a growing personal money skills gap in the UK. A recent report by Family Action showed that some of the low income families the charity supports have less than £2 per person per day to spend on food after household bills are paid.

The first money management session took place at Family Action's Bedford Hill centre in London on Friday 9 November, with more scheduled to take place around the country including in some of London's most deprived boroughs.

Sarah Porretta, Head of the Money for Life programme at Lloyds Banking Group said: "Money management is an increasingly vital life skill, and this partnership allows us to share our employees' expertise in this area where and when it is needed the most".
