Howard Lake | 9 October 2012 | News

UK-wide pub chain JD Wetherspoon has marked its 10 year partnership with CLIC Sargent by announcing that it has raised over £6 million for the charity, beating its target. It is the charity’s longest standing corporate supporter.

The money has been raised by staff and customers at the company’s 862 pubs, ost of them involving fundraising events created to link in with key dates in the company’s calendar.

Fundraising activities included ‘KICK for CLIC Sargent’, a UK-wide staff football tournament that has been running for 10 years and last year involved 48% of pubs, and raised over £350,000, and Team Wetherspoon which took part in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon and raised £472,756.

The company will also be supporting young cancer survivors looking to gain work experience in the hospitality industry via the pubs.

CLIC Sargent’s CEO, Lorraine Clifton, thanked the company’s staff and customers, adding: “This year has been one of the partnership’s most successful yet, with £1 million being raised in just nine months.”
