Howard Lake | 8 November 2012 | News

Professional services firm KPMG is to partner with Action for Literacy and housing and homelessness charity Shelter for the next two years.

The firm will provide pro bono strategic and business advice and support the charities with volunteering and fundraising activities, with the aim of raising over £1 million to be divided by the charities.

KPMG's previous two-year partnership with Barnardo's exceeded the £1.2 million fundraising target, reaching nearly £1.3 million. Over a thousand hours of pro bono professional support were also delivered.

KPMG has a history of working to support literacy and social inclusion in the UK, so the charities match that focus. For example, many KPMG staff act as reading or numbers partners in local primary schools, and KPMG was one of the founding parties of the Every Child a Chance Trust which calculated the true cost to the UK of poor literacy.

The relationship with the two charities will be led by Mona Bitar, partner at KPMG.
