Key Travel teams up with Hope and Homes for Children

Key Travel, a leading supplier of travel to the not-for-profit sector, is delighted to announce that international children’s charity Hope and Homes for Children has been chosen as its Charity of the Year for 2012.
Every financial year Key Travel staff vote for one of three shortlisted charities to become Charity of the Year. Hope and Homes for Children, a global leader in closing children’s institutions and reforming childcare systems, was the employees’ charity of choice.
Over the coming year staff at Key Travel will be taking part in fundraising activities to help support Hope and Homes for Children’s lifesaving work. Last year staff raised more than £5,000 for Action Against Hunger through triathlons, a London-to-Edinburgh cycle ride and mountain climbing challenges – a total they hope to beat this year.
Steve Summers, Chief Executive of Key Travel, says: “Key Travel is looking forward to an exciting year of fundraising for an excellent cause. Hope and Homes for Children makes sure children grow up in a loving, family environment and aren’t abandoned to institutions. Key Travel is proud to support them in this work. Last year our staff excelled themselves in raising money for our Charity of the Year and we hope to do the same – and better – this year.”
Mark Waddington, Chief Executive of Hope and Homes for Children, says: “We would like to thank Key Travel staff for choosing us as their Charity of the Year. Some people estimate that eight million children across the world are wasting away in institutions and orphanages. The shocking truth is no one really knows the actual figure. We make sure these hidden children count by working with willing governments to reform childcare systems – preventing family breakdown, closing institutions and getting children back into loving families. Our new partnership Key Travel is a great opportunity to transform the lives of many more vulnerable children across the world.”
Last year Hope and Homes for Children supported 7,346 vulnerable children and family members to stay together – preventing abandonment to institutions. It also provided 3,104 professionals with specialist skills to help prevent children being separated from their parents. This included specialist training on the care of children with disabilities.
