Great Daffodil Appeal raises over £12,000 in text donations

Marie Curie Cancer Care has raised over £12,000 through mobile donations in their biggest annual fundraising campaign, The Great Daffodil Appeal.

Working with mobile marketing and communications company Textlocal, they invited supporters to donate £1.50 by sending a simple text message or keyword to a dedicated charity short code.

Rebecca Bednall, Individual Giving Fundraiser, said: “We had over 7,500 responses to all the short codes throughout spring which was almost double the amount we received in the same time period the previous year.

The charity set up 16 keywords on Textlocal’s low-cost charity short code 70777, using words such as CARE, DAFFODIL and LOVE. They included this information in a national advertising campaign showing people how to donate via text in major press titles and high profile venues across the country.
