TerraCycle raises £100,000 for UK schools and charities

Howard Lake | 26 April 2012 | News

London-based recycling company TerraCycle has donated £100,000 through its recycling programmes since its launch in 2009.
The company offers programmes to collect previously unrecyclable waste such as used baby wipes packaging, baby food pouches, coffee refill packs, coffee machine t-discs, mobile phones, yoghurt pots and bottles, pens and oral care waste through various ‘brigade’ collections. Schools, charities, offices and others can collect the waste, which is from branded products (Activia yoghurt pots, Johnson’s baby wipes, Tassimo, coffee t-disc podsfor example) and send them to TerraCycle, who will then make a donation to the charity of the collector’s choice, based on the weight of the materials sent.
All the collected waste packaging that Terracycle receives is either recycled into generic plastic products such as plant pots, garden benches and waste bins, or ‘upcycled’ into new products such as pencil cases, baby bibs or tote bags.
