Mark Astarita to chair Institute of Fundraising for another year
Mark Astarita, Director of Fundraising at the British Red Cross, has agreed to serve a second year as Chair of the Institute of Fundraising. He took over the position in May 2011 from Paul Amadi, and an interim period during which former Vice Chair Alan Gosschalk took on the acting chair position.
Astarita’s extension in the role was confirmed at the latest meeting of the Institute’s Board of Trustees, and helps ensure continuity while they complete a governance review. Institute Vice Chair Gill Raikes publicly thanked him for his hard work, flair and professionalism.
Astarita has been a Trustee of the Institute since 2008. Before the British Red Cross he had worked as Deputy Chief Executive at the National Deaf Children’s Society and Fundraising Manager at Prisoners Abroad. He said that he was “someone who is passionate about the profession of fundraising”, adding “I am determined to play my part in fighting for the recognition of the value that fundraisers bring to organisations the length and breadth of the UK”.
