Leonard Cheshire Disability wins award for Tri Together triathlon

Leonard Cheshire Disability has won an award for its triathlon event, Tri Together, which took place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in September 2011. The event was named ‘Race of the Year (under 500 entries)’ at the 220 Triathlon Awards. The awards are decided by public vote.
It had also been short-listed for the British Triathlon Event of the Year 2011.
Tri Together is a short distance triathlon open to people of all ages and abilities to swim (400m), bike (15km) and run (5km) together. It offers an indoor swimming pool, accessible changing rooms and toilets, and wide paths on the run and cycle routes. Entrants can take part individually or share the challenge in a relay team with family, friends or colleagues.
Sarah Ball, National Events Manager at Leonard Cheshire Disability, thanked those who voted for Tri Together. “We feel very strongly” she said, “that disabled people should be able to take part in sports and mainstream competitions if they want to, so we decided to create our own event that was fully accessible. So much hard work went into making the event a big success, and we have high hopes that this year’s event will be even bigger, as Tri Together grows in popularity and the new junior race takes off.”
This year’s competition will take place on 19 August at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in South London.
