Sanofi offers £50k in grants to patient groups

Healthcare company Sanofi is offering three grants totalling £50,000 to support patient groups in the UK. The three grants of £25,000, £15,000 or £10,000 will be awarded to patient groups that can demonstrate that their programmes can deliver improvements in patient empowerment and information.
The 2012 Patient Group Bursary is open to patient groups in the broadest sense, whether they are local groups, charities, social enterprises or professional associations. It is open to organisations based in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
The grants are being offered because Sanofi believes that, given the major structural change planned for the NHS in England, “patient groups will have a more important role than ever before in championing the needs of individual patients and driving up the quality of their care.”
Last year, the first year of the bursary, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and The Multiple Sclerosis Trust were each awarded £25,000 to support programmes throughout the year.
A panel of expert judges will meet in May to assess the applications. Chaired by Sanofi UK MD Steve Oldfield the judges include Baroness Pitkeathley OBE, Labour Deputy Speaker in the House of Lords; Baroness Neuberger DBE, Senior Rabbi of West London Synagogue, Broadcaster and Author; and Baroness Morris of Bolton OBE, Conservative Deputy Speaker in the House of Lords and Former Shadow spokesperson for Health.
Applications are open now, and will close on Friday 27 April 2012.
