£175k competition for ambitious social entrepreneurs in England

Big Venture Challenge is a national competition offering up to £175,000 for “the 25 most ambitious social entrepreneurs in England”.
Funded by The Big Lottery Fund and the Millennium Awards Trust, operated by UnLtd, the competition aims to find people “with big ideas to transform disadvantaged communities across England… who have got what it takes to build credible ventures… [and] who have the ambition to scale up impact fast”.
The winners will received an initial £25,000 grant. They will also have the chance to apply for a £50,000 grant if they can match this with £50,000 loan / equity investment, and the chance to apply for a £100,000 grant if they can match this with £100,000 loan / equity investment.
Each of the winners will also be given access to an intensive programme of non-financial support including a dedicated Development Manager, a pro bono lawyer, a pro bono financial specialist, a PR team, and a pro bono mentor.
Applications close on 30 June 2011 and the winners will be announced on 20 September.
