2010 best year for Irish Community Foundation giving

Howard Lake | 6 April 2011 | News

Last year was the busiest year yet in terms of grant-making at The Community Foundation for Ireland.
Total grants of over €2.2million were made in 2010 and there was an increase in the number of charitable funds under management to 50. New funds were started by families, companies and charities, according to the Foundation. In 2009 the comparable figure was €1.3 million and €1 million in 2008.
The Community Foundation for Ireland is an independent grant-making organisation. It distributes monies from its own permanent endowment and on behalf of donors and philanthropists to various causes and groups across the country. The Foundation has a number of different grants rounds throughout the year with the biggest grant scheme being their Grassroots Grants Programme. Under the programme grants are allocated to carers, ethnic minorities, families at risk, mental health and older people.
There are four grants rounds in 2011 with one already passed. The next deadline is 30 June followed by 30 September and 30 December. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application within six to eight weeks.
