Google calls to raise funds though… browsing the Internet via Chrome!

Chrome for a Cause -
Turning browser tabs into donations to charity

Very interesting approach to both on-line fundraising, as well as product promotion. Starting today Google Chrome (Internet browser) users can install an extension which will measure the amount of their open browser tabs and allocate funds to a cause of their choice accordingly. “The chrome for a cause extension will count your tabs while you browse the web. At the end of the day, you’ll be asked to choose a charity to receive your tabs. Every day between December 15 and 19 presents the chance to contribute your tabs, so you can choose to support the same charity or pick a different one each day.”
The campaign runs only for a few days, but I am sure it will raise awareness about this piece of increasingly popular and effective software.
Update: (you might also like the Google’s “Zeitgeist 2010: Year in Review” – same rules of promotion and good timing apply there – something to learn from;))
