iPhone app supports Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning
Macmillan Cancer Support has created an iPhone app to support its World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign which takes place today. The ‘Macmillan Coffee Finder’ is designed to help people find coffee shops nearest to them. It lists over 900 cafés and coffee shops that have been reviewed and rated around the UK.
Users rate the cafés by giving them a mug rating, and they can add their comments. They can also upload pictures of the café, the coffees and the pastries that they have bought there.
The app enables users to search for coffee shops with gallery spaces, wifi, toilets, alfresco seating and organic produce. The app includes an augmented reality function which, if they look at their iPhone’s screen, presents a mug floating over the cafe ahead of them. All the user has to do is follow the image to come to the cafe.

The app was created by design agency Kent Lyons. Noel Lyons said: “We wanted to come up with an interesting and fun tool for users which also helps Macmillan to spread their message whilst making it easy for people to donate, and take part in World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
App users are also encouraged to donate the cost of a (rather expensive?) coffee by texting ‘cafe’ to 70123. They will thereby donate £3 to Macmillan.
