Bethechange launches social investment fund

Howard Lake | 11 February 2010 | News

International fundraising and philanthropy consultancy Bethechange Consulting is establishing a social investment fund to enable wealthy individuals to invest their capital in social enterprise projects in the UK.
Funds in the Make A Difference (MAD) Investment Club will deliver both social and financial returns. The fund aims to deliver an annual financial return of between three and five per cent interest to each investor.
The fund is being set up in partnership with the boutique wealth management business, Addidi.
Bethechange aims to recruit an initial 100 members to the club, each of whom will invest at least £5,000. Half of the resulting £500,000 will then be invested in the Big Issue Invest’s Social Enterprise Investment Fund (SEIF). This will channel it to up to 22 social enterprise projects in the UK, with five core themes: jobs, education and training; health and social care; environmental services; financial inclusion; and disability.
The remaining funds will be invested in social enterprises selected by club members that deliver both financial returns and high social impact.
Jon Duschinsky, Founder of Bethechange, said: “We are delighted to be working with Addidi to develop a unique new product that combines philanthropy with a sophisticated investment model. The Mad Investment Club is for the smart investor that, above all, wants to effect change for good. It is a great example of the third sector and wealth advisory communities coming together in order to achieve a real impact in communities around the world.”
Members of the club, which will be launched at a reception next week, will be encouraged to attend exclusive educational workshops with a focus on philanthropy and wealth management.
