BIG Lottery Fund gives £661,864 to 15 community projects

Fifteen community projects across the UK have received £661,864 in funding from the Big Lottery Fund to support their “imaginative schemes” designed to enhance facilities, improve local areas and help people get involved and enjoy their communities more.
The grants were made near the 15th anniversary of the National Lottery.
Peter Wanless, Chief Executive of the Big Lottery Fund said: “All groups receiving funding today impressed the Big Lottery Fund by demonstrating great understanding of local needs and strong public support for their projects.

“Whether updating play equipment at a local school, building a new pathway to protect local woodland areas or creating new opportunities for people with disabilities, these Lottery projects will make a real difference to communities by bringing people together working towards a common goal”.
Recipients include Friendly Bombs Theatre Company in Burnham, which is getting £24,000 for a Shakespeare theatre production offering disabled people an opportunity to act; and Whitegate Nursery School & Children’s Centre in Padiham, Burnley which will receive £50,000 to create a sensory room with state-of-the art equipment including lights, sounds, and tactile surfaces.
Since the National Lottery began in 1994, over £23 billion has now been raised and more than 317,000 grants awarded across arts, sport, heritage, charities, health, education and the environment. As the largest distributor of National Lottery good cause funding, the BIG Lottery Fund gives around £600 million every year.
