The National Lottery Awards 2009 winners announced
The winners of The National Lottery Awards 2009 have been announced. Harbour Place Day Centre was named the UK’s best Lottery-funded voluntary/charity project, beating hundreds of projects from across the UK.
The National Lottery Awards are designed to find and recognise "the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects".

By winning the Best Voluntary/Charity Project in association with woman magazine, Harbour Place Day Centre received a £2,000 cash prize to spend on the project.
The runners-up in the Best Voluntary/Charity Project category in association with woman magazine were:
· Fledglings, a national charity that supports the families of children with any disability or special need, from dyspraxia to life threatening illnesses
· The National Autistic Society’s Out of School Clubs, based in the South-West, which provide a safe environment for children and young people with autism to develop friendships, try something new and have fun
The winners of the other 2009 National Lottery Awards were:
· Best Arts Project: Sefton Performing Arts and Creative Education Centre
· Best Education Project: Tower Hamlets Summer University
· Best Environment Project: RSPB Dearne Valley – Old Moor Nature Reserve
· Best Health Project, in association with FemaleFirst.co.uk: The Jennifer Trust’s Spinal Muscular Atrophy Outreach Service
· Best Heritage Project: Restoration of Stourport-on-Severn Canal Basins
· Best Sports Project: Community Sports Pavilion
Since The National Lottery began in November 1994, more than £23 billion has been raised for good causes with over 325,000 grants given out across arts, sport, heritage, charities, health, education and the environment.
