Mobile phone recycling company SHP Limited has launched a website to promote its services for charities.

Shpforcharity.co.uk allows users to turn their old mobile phones into cash as they do with other recycling sites, but at the same time they can opt to keep some of the income for themselves.

Simon Walsh, sales and marketing director of ShP, said: “ShP has been running recycling campaigns with charities for over five years and in this time we have gradually seen the quantity and quality of handsets that some charities receive fall.

“This decline has mainly been due to increased awareness of users about the potential value for their old mobile phones and as a result people would rather keep the money as opposed to donating them to a charity.

“By using shpforcharity.co.uk users are still able to turn their old mobiles into cash but at the same time they can select the amount they would like their charity to receive.”

ShP Ltd say that over 100 charities have already signed up to be listed on the site including World Cancer Research Fund, Help for Heroes, Starlight Children’s Foundation and World Wildlife Fund UK. It has paid out over £2.5 million to charities since it launched.
