Guardian Charity Awards 2008 open for entries
The annual Guardian Charity Awards aim to recognise and encourage charities that are making an "outstanding and valuable contribution to social welfare in the community".
The 2008 awards, the 16th year that they have been run, are now open for entry. They are designed specifically for smaller and medium-sized charities to enter.

Five winning charities will each receive £6,000, a new PR from Trams Ltd, six months of NCVO consultancy, and a media services package from the Media Trust.
The closing date for entries is 1 August 2008.
