Shoppers at online shopping site easyfundraising raised almost £100,000 in donations for causes around the UK in the Christmas trading period of October to December 2007, representing a 300% increase on the same period last year.
Becky Coleman, spokesperson for easyfundraising, said: “This is a remarkable achievement which demonstrates the huge growth we are experiencing at easyfundraising.
“Over £46 billion was spent online in the UK last year and our service has allowed charities and good causes to tap into this trend and boost their fundraising targets, particularly at Christmas, a time when there are already so many demands on peoples’ pockets and charities may feel the pinch”.
She added that, although many high street shops had suffered a drop in sales in the first few weeks of 2008, sales at easyfundraising were still performing well.
The site has raised over £250,000 for charities and good causes since it launched in October 2006, but the run up to Christmas 2007 was its most successful period.
Coleman added that the site had a number of new developments scheduled for launch during 2008 “which will further enhance the fundraising experience for our member groups and their supporters.”
Easyfundraising enables charities to receive a commission each time their supporters shop at one of over 500 popular retailers featured on the site, including M&S, Amazon, NEXT, Boots, eBay, Dell, Woolworths, Direct Line, Screwfix, Interflora, Staples, and Expedia.
