Daily Mail in £1 million giveaway to children's charities

Howard Lake | 21 November 2007 | News

The Royal Mail and Royal Bank of Scotland Group have again teamed up to give £1 million this Christmas to the children’s charities voted for by the newspaper’s readers.

The Royal Bank of Scotland has for the past seven years been donating £1 million to the top 10 charities supported by its employees during the year. For the second year running though the choice of recipients will be decided by Daily Mail readers.

The first stage process simply requires readers to nominate their favourite British-registered children’s charity. They should write in, explaining in a few sentences why they think their favourite charity deserves the winning £100,000 donation. The ninety charities that are runners-up will receive £10,000 each.

Nominations must be received by the Daily Mail by 29 November 2007. A shortlist will be chosen by a team of judges and featured in the Daily Mail from 13 December.

A telephone vote by readers will then determine the overall winner of the £100,000 prize. Voting will close on 16 December, and the winner will be announced in the newspaper on Boxing Day.

The Children’s Trust has been quick of the mark, announcing the opportunity to members of its Facebook group and giving them suggested texts for them to use in nominating the charity.
