Charity Commission lists recently registered charities

Howard Lake | 2 November 2007 | Blogs

The Charity Commission has begun publishing a list of recently registered charities. You can view a list covering the last seven days, the previous week, previous month, or previous quarter. All of them are listed by in the alphabetical order of their postcode.
This service, which seems to be updated daily, thus becomes another useful free current awareness tool for trust fundraisers keen to discover newly registered grantmaking trusts. Listed among the new charities will inevitably be some grantmakers.
According to Finbar Cullen of prospect research consultancy ResearchPlus, the list suggests that “approximately 400 organisations register as charities with the Commission every month.”
However, the information should be handled carefully. The registration of a new grantmaking trust does not mean that it has funds available to distribute immediately: some trusts take months or even years to build up their endowment or funds.
Nevertheless, this list could prove useful to some researchers.
