Abele, who is president of the Royal Shakespeare Company America Inc, which raises funds in the USA for the Stratford-upon-Avon-based theatre company.

The donation comes in response to the company’s £112.8 million capital appeal for a redeveloped theatre. The international campaign has already secured £100 towards the new 1000-seat thrust stage auditorium, which will make it “the largest thrust stage with a tiered auditorium in the world”.
