Ukash offers online 'change' donation service to charities

Online cash payments company Ukash is to let consumers donate the spare ‘change’ from their online cash vouchers to charities.

Ukash offers an alternative online payment service to credit and debit cards: it issues cash vouchers for consumers in the UK and 19 other European countries to spend online. There are around 40,000 payment/purchase terminals in the UK at grocery stores, petrol forecorts, newsagents, and other convenient locations. Single, uniquely numbered vouchers are worth up to £499.

Ukash say that consumers don’t always spend the full value of the vouchers on shopping, communications, lifestyle and gaming websites, leaving ‘small change’ unused. It is this small change that Ukash aims to channel towards charities.

It is planning to work with “a small number of selected charitable partners” who will benefit from these donated ‘cash’.

Mark Chirnside, CEO at Ukash, said: “We feel this is a dynamic way to help charities by capitalising on the large number of small vale Ukash change vouchers that are issued every day and may not otherwise be spent.”

The FSA-accredited UK company is offering charities the options of becoming a ‘Ukash Charity Partner’ where donations will be collected via a special ‘Donate Your Ukash’ page at ukash.com, or becoming a Ukash Charity Merchant, where the charity could collect donations by Ukash on its own website.
