Where now for face-to-face fundraising?
A one-day conference on 27 September 2007 at City University, Northampton Square, London EC1
Face-to-face fundraising is still one of the most cost-effective techniques in a fundraiser’s toolkit, but apart from the media, it is given little attention.
Over the last few years, the marketplace itself has matured and professionalised, and the regulatory environment has changed beyond recognition. The new Charities Act aims to stabilise the mass of legislation and regulation around face-to-face, but how will it actually affect fundraisers?

“This one-day conference from fundraising sector specialist Back Page Books aims to address these issues and more. This is the first national event specifically addressing face-to-face fundraising for some time,” said director Penny Stephens.
“We know that face-to-face has been phenomenally successful for charities over the last 10 years or so, and it continues to bring in hundreds of thousands of new donors and millions of pounds each year.
“However, because it’s such a high-profile form of fundraising, it also attracts more than its fair share of media attention, which has, at times, had a negative impact on the sector.”
This conference will look at the face-to-face sector, past, present and future.
- Who are our donors and how do we look after them?
- What does face-to-face fundraising look like in other countries and what can we learn from them?
- What will the Charities Act mean for face-to-face?
- Should we use in-house teams, or professional fundraising organisations?
- And the A word. Attrition. Or should it be Retention?
- New forms of face-to-face fundraising are coming on-stream, but are they damaging the sector for others?
- What can we do to get a more positive view of face-to-face in the media?
The conference will end with a panel session to include speakers from the day, plus the City Centre Manager for Nottingham and will look at the evolution of face-to-face and address questions on the future for the technique.
The conference is supported by the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association, and chaired by its chief executive Mick Aldridge. Speakers include Michael Naidu of Mencap, Patrick Brennan of nfpSynergy, Anne-Marie Piper of Farrers, Jenny Sheriff of Sustrans and Ian MacQuillin of Turner PR.
Sponsors are Flow Caritas, Fundraising Initiatives ltd, Future Fundraising Ltd, Home Fundraising ltd and Inspired People Ltd. Media partner is Professional Fundraising magazine, and the online media partner is UK Fundraising.
