BG Group, a global natural gas business, has today announced that it will continue its partnership with CARE International as it launches the BG Energy Challenge, a series of international challenge events for people working in the energy industry. Currently five events will take place worldwide over the next 12 months and those taking part in the UK event will raise funds for the leading humanitarian organisation.
Each team entering the UK event, which consists of a series of mental and physical challenges, will be expected to raise a minimum of £5,000 for CARE International which fights poverty and injustice in 70 countries across the globe. BG Group has a long standing relationship with CARE and in 2005 its UK event raised more than £215,000 for the charity which has over 60 years’ experience working with the disadvantaged. Previous BG events have raised more than £1.7million for charity since 1996.
BG Group created the Energy Challenge to provide a unique opportunity for businessmen and women to network outside the office. The UK event has been created in collaboration with Challenger World, the world’s leading organiser of inter-business team competitions and will test each team’s mental and physical stamina, strength, intelligence and core team skills. Ed ‘Bear’ Grylls, the youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest, will also be speaking at the UK event and sharing his experiences with the competitors to help them remain motivated and focussed heading into the final stages.
The UK event will take place in Aberystwyth, Wales from 6 – 9th July and where necessary CARE will available to advise teams on their fundraising in the run to up to the event. Throughout the challenge teams will have to work together to complete a range of team building tasks that could include kayaking, mountain biking and mountaineering as well as bridge building, code breaking and complex construction.
Geoffrey Dennis, CEO, CARE International, says: CARE has been working with BG Group for the past decade – their generous donations have made a real difference to the lives of people in the poorest countries in the world. CARE is all about creating lasting change and helping people to make a decent living for themselves and their families. We’re very grateful for the funds we receive from BG Group.”
Mark Carne, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Europe, BG Group, commented: We are pleased to continue our long standing partnership with CARE International. The BG Energy Challenge is all about bringing people together, building good teams and boosting moral; fundraising is a key part of this. By working together to face the mental and physical challenges that this event brings, the teams have the knowledge that together they have raised funds for those less fortunate than themselves.”
