Two top sports stars to advise Vodafone Group Foundation

Paralympic athlete Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE, four Olympic gold medals winner Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE, are to as special advisers to the trustees of the Vodafone Group Foundation on its investment into sporting initiatives.

The athletes will focus on the Foundation’s investment of over £12 million into its new Sport and Music Programme over the next three years. They will work closely with the Foundation to harness investment into sporting projects which create positive change for disadvantaged young people and their communities.

Over the last five years, The Vodafone Group Foundation has invested over £101 million in social investments around the world. From 2007 to 2010 the new programme will make funds available for both sport and music initiatives which have positive effects on health, education and alleviating poverty.

Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE said: “Sport and music are international languages that not only transcend boundaries but also have a positive impact on a number of problems such as poor health, crime and social exclusion. We need to galvanise the benefits of sport quickly and make real change to the communities that most need it.”

The Vodafone Group Foundation is seeking partners for the proposed programme of activity in both sport and music. Expressions of interest must be received by 15 August 2007.
