New Director General at Royal British Legion

The Royal British Legion has appointed Chris Simpkins as Director General. He joins from the Falkland Islands Government where he is Chief Executive, as well as being Head of the Falkland Islands Civil Service.

Simpkins has spent over 35 in the UK and international public sector. While at the Falkland Islands he has led a modernisation and improvement programme for the civil service, working with members to improve governance, management and business planning processes.

He has also maintained close working relations with senior military personnel based at the Tri Service Garrison based on the Falkland Islands; particularly with regard to disaster planning, the joint use of assets and ceremonial activities.

In the UK has has been active on health service and rural issues, having served as Chairman of Stamford College of Further Education, as Director of Lincolnshire and Rutland Connexions and on the Rural Affairs Forum for England.

Frances Done will continue as Interim Director General until Chris Simpkins takes up his new role in October 2007.
