cBidStore to donate 15% of all sales to charities

Howard Lake | 5 June 2007 | News

cBidStores.co.uk is a new online store that donates 15% of all sales generated by partner charitable organisations through their customised entrance page. Any charity or not-for-profit community organisation can sign up with cBidStores, including registered charities, Parent Teacher Associations, churches, sports clubs, youth groups, playgroups, village halls or any other form of community organisation.

There is no sign-up fee or other on-going charges for organisations to participate. For sales generated by each charity cBidStores will donate 15% including VAT but excluding any delivery costs.

Partner organisations will of course need to promote the opportunity to members and supporters, although cBidStores will shortly be offering free publicity tools including downloadable posters. Organisations will have password access to sales and income data to keep track of progress. Payments will be made quarterly.

The team behind cBidStores have both voluntary and commercial sector experience. Dixon Milburn and Zoe Thompson have provided project development, business planning and funding strategy consultancy to small and medium-sized charities. Ian Fletcher and Mark Preston’s backgrounds include senior management roles with major retailers such as Grattan, Next, GUS, Argos Retail Group and Ideal World TV.

Although partner organisations won’t be able to choose which products are stocked in their store, cBid says that it is “committed to ethical trading”, adding that it “will not, for example, be displaying any products of a sexual nature, fur products or any products of dubious origin”.

Initially the cBidStore will be stocked with goods for retail that are sourced through wholesale suppliers, but there are plans to enable the placement and sale of donated goods.
