The National Lottery Awards 2007 are now open for nominations. They aim to celebrate and recognise the difference that such projects, large and small, have made to people, places and communities across the UK.

This year the awards categories have been broadened “to better reflect the different types of projects that benefit from Lottery funding.”

The categories are:

* best sports project
* best heritage project
* best arts project
* best environment project
* best voluntary/charity project
* best health project
* best education project

The winner in each category will receive a cash award of £2,000, and will be featured on a BBC1 television show in autumn 2007.

After an initial judging session to narrow down the entries, a public vote will determine which of the selected projects get through to the next round. The top three in each category will go through to the final and face a further public vote to find the seven category winners.

To enter, projects or individuals must have already been awarded and allocated their Lottery funding. The main beneficiaries of the project must be in the UK, and only completed projects and those which can demonstrate a tangible benefit for the public can be considered. If you entered the Awards in a previous year but did not win, you can enter again this year.

Applications must be received by 27 April 2007.
