Colchester charities aim for a million pounds in a week

Howard Lake | 18 March 2007 | News

Five Colchester charities are working together on ‘The Big Idea’, an attempt to raise £1 million from the Essex town’s residents in one week, and thereby get into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The charities are urging residents to put aside £1 a week for 10 weeks to donate to the fund during the Big Idea Week which runs from 30 April to 6 May.

St Helena Hospice, Headway Essex and The Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre will use the money they receive for their own services, and The Town Fund and King Coel’s Kittens fund will use their finds to distribute amongst any other charity or good cause in the Borough of Colchester that successfully applies.

The organisers are hoping that, with an online donation facility on the event’s website, powered by Bmycharity, Colcestrians from around the world will also contribute.

Donations can be made to the appeal via cheque, SMS or online.
