New Award for The Message… Investors in (Young) People!

Howard Lake | 16 February 2007 | Newswire

Manchester-based youth charity The Message Trust is thrilled to announce that after the culmination of two years’ work it was awarded last month with Investors in People accreditation.

After two days of intensive interviews with both staff and volunteers from a range of teams and levels, Investors in People’s independent assessor finished by passing on his profound appreciation and admiration to The Message. The report states that The Message is a first-class organisation, matching most -if not all- professional or commercial organisations and continues that all those interviewed not only had a clear understanding of what the Message was seeking to achieve, but demonstrated a passion and commitment to it that was unsurpassed in the assessor’s experience!

Investors in People believe that organisations recognising the importance of their people can help them to develop their potential, improve their skills and gain greater job satisfaction. Successful organisations are those that appreciate their people and value the contribution they can make, so by being given encouragement and praise everyone within the organisation pulls together as a team.

Since 1990, the Investors in People standard helps organisations to improve performance and realise objectives through the management and development of their people. The standard is based on three key principles: Developing strategies to improve the performance of the organisation, taking action to improve the performance of the organisation and evaluating the impact on the performance of the organisation. There are currently over 37,000 recognised organisations in the UK.

Andy Betts, Director of Fundraising & PR, said:

“We are delighted to be awarded the Investors in People standard. This accreditation reflects the amazing work put in by all our staff and volunteers and we are always looking for ways of acknowledging our people as the very best they can be. We have been blessed with incredible support from people who share our vision to improve young people’s lives and now it is wonderful to see all this effort being rewarded by an established and well-respected institution such as Investors in People”.

Operating in Greater Manchester for over 15 years, The Message Trust is driven by Christian principles and a passion for young people and the city’s most deprived estates. Every month it delivers around 2000 hours of youth work through more than 300 separate activities and is in contact with an average of 5,000 young people all over Greater Manchester. The enormous impact of The Message has been confirmed by a number of independent studies (for example, police reports that in some cases criminality has declined by up to 47%) and has been rewarded with a nomination for the prestigious national Charity Awards 2006.
