The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has launched its annual £1m Valentine Appeal to help fund its care work for heart patients across the UK. The campaign has been designed to capitalise on the romance of Valentine’s day on 14 February and engage target audiences.

The campaign includes BHF Shops placing a ‘Love Note’ in their window from members of the public keen to tell the world about their feelings, for a donation of £1 or £5.

BHF’s corporate partners are supporting the appeal. For example, Boots the Chemists stores will be offering exclusively created mini Love Note pads and silver, heart shaped pin badges for a suggested donation of £1. A limited edition Radox ‘Heart Warming’ range will be on sale, and Hallmark Valentine cards will be sold at the Co-op with a 5p donation from each one sold. Other companies lending their support include Dower & Hall, Le Creuset, Serenata Flowers, Sara Eden Personal Introductions and MyMovieStream.

Once again, the appeal will include a campaign microsite, which launched on 8 January. Visitors are encouraged to support the appeal by buying a present of a ‘BHF discovery’, donating one hour of their salary, or finding out how to order fundraising materials.

Community fundraising activity will include encouraging individuals, businesses and groups to get involved by ordering a free Love Notes pack or love song themed sweepstake poster and asking friends and colleagues to donate £1 to take part. People can also hold their own Valentine event and donate funds raised to the charity.

BHF will mail an appeal to 200,000 donors in February.

Celebrity supporters for this year’s appeal include Dame Helen Mirren.
