World Vision, the international relief and development charity, has announced that ex-Coronation Street star Nikki Sanderson will be this year’s official ambassador of its annual 24 Hour Famine, which takes place between 9 -11 February 2007.

Now in its 21st year, the 24 Hour Famine is, according to World Vision, “the UK’s largest youth fundraising event” with more than 2 million people in the UK having raised over £20 million since the appeal was launched.

Fundraising from this year’s campaign will benefit the Keembe community, one of the poorest areas in Zambia.

Nikki Sanderson said: “We all have a duty to help others and I would encourage everyone across the UK to take part in the 24 Hour Famine, to raise these vital funds and also experience what so many have to go through every day of their lives.”
