UK foundation expands Irish giving

Howard Lake | 20 September 2006 | News

The Allen Lane Foundation has decided to extend its funding in Ireland. For the last five years it has only funded work relating to prisons and penal work but will now consider applications relating to refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers.

The new funding from Allen Lane will particularly focus on combating racism and encouraging integration. The Foundation has tended to fund smaller organisations and annual giving in the Irish Republic has been around £40,000.

The Allen Lane Foundation was established by the founder of Penguin Books, Sir Allen Lane, and annual expenditure is in the region of £500,000. Approximately 100 grants are made each year.
