The UK population has now reached 60 million for the first time, according to the Office for National Statistics. OK, so a good proportion of them are under 18 and not going to be on charity mailing lists, but a growing population is surely good news for direct marketing fundraisers.
The Office for National Statistics reports that the UK population rose 0.6% to 60.2 million in the year to June 2005, with England accounting for 50.4 million of the total. That meant 717,500 births during that period, against 590,000 deaths. How many of the latter were testate and included a charity legacy I wonder?
