Howard Lake | 31 July 2006 | News

The University of Greenwich’s fundraising and development team is joined by two new staff members this summer.

Catherine Pettengell and Kate Anderson join the Alumni & Development team, part of the Development & Communications Office, which was created in April 2005 with the arrival of its first Director, Phil Chambers.

Catherine Pettengell comes from a background in insurance and corporate training to fill the new post of Major Donors Officer. Kate Anderson comes from a development post at the London School of Economics to fill the new post of Trusts & Corporate Officer.

The Alumni & Development team has already helped to raise £700,000 for the Atkins Chair of Civil Engineering and is working on a range of projects to establish bursaries and fund new courses. Plans in the pipeline include establishing a Centre for the Creative Industries, creating a Chair in Health Care Research and developing stronger links with key business figures.

The new posts are funded by a grant from the Department for Education & Skills (DfES) to boost development and fundraising efforts at the university. The grant to Greenwich was one of the largest made to any university, and is being matched by the university. One more post, Annual Giving & Legacies Officer, is currently being recruited.
