HJC creates Africa-based Internet consultancy for nonprofits

Howard Lake | 19 July 2006 | News

“Imagine consultancies in Africa designing, programming, and executing world wide online campaigns on the issue of HIV/AIDS”, says Mike Johnston of Canadian online fundraising agency HJC. “It should exist and now it does!”

Hewitt & Johnston Consultants (HJC) has worked with its long-time colleague, Ken Wiwa, and his company, Suanuto, to train a team in Port Harcourt that has become HJC’s African team.

Johnston sees this development as “helping to establish a professional consulting practice in the region on the uses of new media to support the development of civil society and good governance.” He is asking other nonprofits to help support this initiative: “Now we’re looking for the commitment of the nonprofit community”, he say, “to give our African team a chance to help your organisation – and help bridge the digital divide at the same time.”
