British Heart Foundation chooses Globix to pump new blood into charity's website

Best-of-breed hosting ensures 24/7 access to vital health information & donation services
May 2 2006: The British Heart Foundation (BHF) and managed hosting provider Globix today announced major enhancements to the charity’s website infrastructure to improve online performance and reliability, helping enhance the user experience of BHF’s 450,000 monthly website visitors.
The BHF, which is the largest independent funder of heart research in the UK, is confident that online donations will increase significantly in 2006 above the £1.5million raised in 2005.
“We are continuously looking for ways to improve the service the BHF website offers to our visitors,” explained Randy Perkins, Web Development Manager at the BHF. “Globix offers a hosting solution that guarantees a 24/7 web presence. Since Globix began hosting bhf.org.uk in March 2006 we’ve not been let down once.”
Globix has designed and implemented a bespoke hosting and security infrastructure for BHF, using best of breed technologies and PRINCE2 project management methodology. The solution offers the Charity increased capacity and is being housed in Globix’ state of the art London data centre, which has some of the most advanced power and cooling capabilities in the UK.
“Good hosting is not cheap and choosing the wrong provider can cost an organisation dearly, not just in capital investment, but in terms of lost revenues and major brand damage. As a charity, the British Heart Foundation is very conscious about all of these, but especially about how it spends money,” explained Paul Court, Director of Operations, Globix UK. “We are confident that the improvements we have already enabled, alongside the new services we will underpin for BHF, will help us return the BHF’s investment very quickly.”
Revenue generated by the website is vital to BHF. It directly funds research, education and care. The site also provides a valuable public service, giving people a resource for information on heart problems. It is therefore very important that the website is constantly available for users and that it is supported by the highest levels of security to protect financial information.
“Globix fully understands the importance of service availability for BHF. The infrastructure we have built will make sure it can focus on creating new web services while we focus on ensuring that they can be used to their full potential,” added Paul.
Randy concluded, “Globix has been extremely responsive and helpful. Currently we’re going to focus on expanding the content on the site to include video, something we haven’t tried before, and hope this will enhance the user’s experience by creating a more adventurous and interactive site. Moving forward we will look at adding to the services we offer BHF partners, including the possible development of extranets.”
