New tick-based quality marque from Fundraising Standards Board

The Fundraising Standards Board has unveiled its new logo which all organisations that sign up to self-regulation later this year will be required to display on their fundraising materials.

Using a simple ‘tick’ image, the logo is designed to serve as a ‘quality marque’ on charity materials indicating that the charity is committed to the highest standards of fundraising.

The logo was announced at the Institute of Fundraising’s self-regulation briefing event to organisational members earlier today.

The Fundraising Standards Board (FSB) will start recruiting charities to the self-regulatory scheme for fundraising in June 2006. The scheme will be launched to the public in October 2006.

Fundraising organisations that sign up to self-regulation will be required to meet the best practice standards outlined in the Donors’ Charter and the Institute of Fundraising’s Codes of Fundraising Practice.

The Fundraising Standards Board will monitor compliance with the Codes “with the introduction of a robust consumer-facing complaints procedure”.

The Fundraising Standards Board consulted on the development of the logo with a group of leading charities. Commenting on the new brand, Paul Farthing, Legacy Fundraising Director at Cancer Research UK and part of that consultation group, said: “The Fundraising Standards Board’s quality marque is clean, clear and simple. Charities should find that it will not compete with their own brands, rather it will compliment them by highlighting every charity’s commitment to the highest standards in fundraising. Each charity has a role to play in conveying what this symbol means to their donors.”

The Institute’s Organisational members have already committed to meet the best practice ./guidance outlined within the Donors’ Charter and Codes of Fundraising Practice, and are expected to lead the way in signing up to self-regulation. The Institute has committed to absorb up to one third of the cost of self-regulation for all Organisational members.

The launch event was the first in the Institute of Fundraising’s new “Raising Your Voice” programme. This is the Institute’s consultation and campaigning mechanism, informing members and enabling them to add their voice and ideas about key policy and campaigning issues as well as fundraisers’ professional development needs.
