Firefox fundraising site "too popular"

Howard Lake | 16 January 2006 | News

The HelpFirefox website set up to raise funds through selling pixel adverts has gone down after it proved too popular with would-be donors.

According to ZDNet UK, a statement on the site said: “The first 24 hours of this site has been a true success, with more than 13 800 pixels being sold. We have to take down the site for now but we hope to be back as soon as possible.”

Pixels adverts are being sold on the site at $1 each to raise funds to further the development of the open source web browser Firefox.

The site is trying to emulate the success of British student Alex Tew and his Million Dollar Homepage.
