Boy's idea generates thousands for charity
A young Dubliner while at home sick from school came up with an idea to raise money for charity which raised over ‚€80,000 for the Irish Red Cross and Turning the Tide Suicide group. While watching Pope John Paul’s funeral on TV he had the idea of raising money for charity by selling wristbands with the late pope’s phrase ‘Be Not Afraid’ written on them.
Twelve year old Daniel Philbin-Bowman was praised for his energy and determination by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin whom he approached for backing. About 50,000 of the wristbands were sold for ‚€2 in the first six weeks.
