Authors unite with book for tsunami disaster charities
An international group of well-known authors have donated material to a book published by Bloomsbury to raise funds for charities involved in responding to the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster of 26 December 2004.
The 16 writers have donated work from their forthcoming books. “New Beginnings” , with an introduction by Helen Fielding, was published by Bloomsbury on World Book Day, 3 March 2005, and is priced at £5.
Participating authors include Nick Hornby, Tracy Chevalier, Vickram Seth, Alexander McCall Smith, Joanna Trollope, Scott Turow, Stephen King, and J.M. Coetzee.

Bloomsbury will be publishing the book in the UK, in the States through Bloomsbury USA and in Germany through their German company Berlin Verlag.
At least £4.82 of the £5 cover price will reach the charities as the authors, publishers, distributors, carriers and booksellers have all donated their services.
Royal Bank of Scotland, Bloomsbury’s bank, donated £10,000 towards the printing costs of the book.
Once the figures become available, Bloomsbury says that it will publish monthly sales figures on its website showing exactly how much has been raised through book sales and where the money will go.
The book benefited from donated advertising on London Underground from 1 March, together with extensive online advertising. All Bloomsbury and Curtis Brown staff were encouraged to send a viral email to all members of their e-mail address contact lists on publication to encourage their contacts, friends and family to buy a copy of the book and to pass on the e-mail.
