Howard Lake | 6 December 2000 | News

In October UK Fundraising reported on the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture’s novel fundraising idea, the Immortality Auction. Anyone could bid to have their name used in the next novel by authors such as Kathy Lette, Nick Hornby and Louis de Bernieres.
The auction was held yesterday evening and raised a total of £25,000, including a £10,000 donation from author Ruth Rendell despite the fact that she disapproved of the fundraising idea.
